Former Citizen TV journalist Willis Raburu sustained minor injuries following a road accident while participating in the Linda Mwananchi campaign trail in Trans Nzoia County. The incident occurred during a busy day of political activities and is one of several road accidents reported in connection with the campaign in recent weeks, highlighting growing concerns about safety during political tours.
According to Raburu, he had become separated from the main campaign convoy and was travelling on a motorcycle in an effort to catch up when a passing vehicle struck him. The impact reportedly knocked him to the ground, leaving him with bruises to his hands and feet. He said the driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision, prompting him to get back on the motorcycle and continue pursuing the convoy despite his injuries.
Speaking after the incident, Raburu reassured supporters that he was not seriously hurt and remained committed to the campaign. He described his injuries as minor and said they would not prevent him from continuing his responsibilities. With characteristic determination, he explained that campaign trails can be demanding and unpredictable but insisted that the incident would not slow the team’s progress.
Raburu also noted that several members of the campaign support team, including the master of ceremonies and the audio crew, had also fallen behind the main convoy. Despite the setback, he expressed confidence that they would eventually rejoin the rest of the campaign team and continue with the scheduled activities.
The accident occurred on the same day another road incident involving the Linda Mwananchi campaign was reported along the Sibanga–Kitale Road in Trans Nzoia County. A Toyota Prado associated with a campaign aspirant overturned during the political tour. Witnesses alleged that excessive speed contributed to the crash and reported that several supporters had been riding on the outside of the vehicle before it rolled over.
These incidents have renewed discussion about the importance of road safety during political campaigns, where large convoys, crowded roads, and demanding travel schedules can increase risks for candidates, campaign workers, journalists, supporters, and other road users. Authorities continue to encourage motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and prioritise safety throughout campaign activities to help prevent further accidents.
